WHAT OUR EMPLOYMENT SERVICES OFFER

Veterans Place offers practical, personal employment services. Veterans receive guidance built around real needs. Some veterans come to us ready to apply for jobs right away. Others need help rebuilding their resumes, preparing for interviews, or addressing barriers that make it harder to secure employment.

Our services include the Post 9/11 Employment Program, the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program, and employment support for low-income veterans and families. Each program is designed to help veterans prepare for work, connect with opportunity, and move toward greater stability.

Support for the Full Job Search Process

We help veterans through every stage of the process, from job readiness to placement. This can include resume development, training, interview preparation, and assistance with work-related needs such as tools, transportation, insurance, or other essentials that can make the difference between getting hired and missing an opportunity. After job placement, a Workforce Development Case Manager continues to follow each veteran for one year.

What to Expect When You Visit

When you visit the Veterans Resource Center, you can expect a respectful conversation about your goals, your work history, and the support you may need to move forward. Our staff takes time to understand where you are starting from and connects you with our Workforce Development team and other programs and partners, if needed.

Simple, One-on-One Guidance

You will meet with staff who can talk through your employment goals, review your resume, and help you understand which service or program may be the right fit for your next step.

Support That Addresses Real Barriers

Employment support is about more than job leads. We also help veterans navigate practical issues that can stand in the way of work, including transportation, tools, insurance, and other job-related needs.

The goal of our employment services is long-term stability, not just a short-term placement. Veterans Place works with local employers that offer competitive wages and real opportunities, and veterans in our programs have moved into roles in food service, trucking, mechanics, and other fields.

We serve veterans in Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, and Westmoreland counties, helping them connect with support that meets both their immediate needs and long-term goals.

Veterans Place offers employment support for post-9/11 veterans, veterans experiencing homelessness through HVRP, and low-income, economically disadvantaged, and at-risk veterans and families.

No. The Post 9/11 Employment Program supports post-9/11 veterans regardless of discharge status.

Support can include resume building, training, job placement assistance, and help paying for work-related essentials such as tools, transportation, insurance, and similar costs that can affect a veteran’s ability to start or keep a job.

Veterans Place serves veterans in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Westmoreland, and Washington counties. The low-income veterans and families program is focused specifically in and around Allegheny County and the city of Pittsburgh.

For Veterans

The Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP) is a federally funded employment program through the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). At Veterans Place, HVRP funds our Workforce Development Program, which helps veterans experiencing homelessness obtain meaningful, sustainable employment to achieve long-term self-sufficiency and reduce the risk of future homelessness.

Eligibility is based on your veteran status and current housing circumstances. Contact our staff to determine if you qualify for services.

The Workforce Development Program provides individualized support to help veterans prepare for and secure meaningful employment. Services may include:

Job search assistance
Interview preparation
Direct employer referrals
Job placement assistance
Occupational training and certification opportunities
Referrals to supportive service agencies
Follow-up support after employment is obtained
Assistance with employment-related expenses, such as work clothing, transportation, tools, and other approved work-related needs

Yes. The Workforce Development Program supports veterans facing barriers to employment and works to identify opportunities and resources that promote a successful return to the workforce.

Yes. Depending on eligibility and individual employment goals, the Workforce Development Program may assist with occupational training, certifications, work-related equipment, and other employment-related needs.

Our Workforce Development Program connects employers with motivated veteran candidates who bring valuable skills, leadership experience, and a strong work ethic to the workplace.

No. Employment referral and placement services are provided at no cost to employers.

Our Workforce Development team maintains contact with both the veteran and the employer for up to one year to help ensure a successful transition, address concerns, and promote long-term employment retention.
