Recovery Support Program

Recovery is personal, and support should reflect that.

The Recovery Support Program at Veterans Place helps veterans build stability, strengthen recovery, and connect with the resources they need for long-term wellness.

Funded by a two-year grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, this program provides person-centered support through Community-Based Certified Recovery Specialists who bring both professional training and lived experience to their work.

The goal of the Recovery Support Program is to help participants build stability, strengthen recovery, and improve overall quality of life.

What to Expect in Our Recovery Support Services Program

The Recovery Support Services Program follows a peer-driven, non-clinical model that emphasizes choice, dignity, and meeting veterans where they are. The program is grounded in a trauma-informed understanding that recovery is personal and non-linear.

With support from Certified Recovery Specialists with lived experience, Veterans Place focuses on connection, empowerment, harm reduction, and long-term stability.

Getting started is designed to be straightforward. The process begins with an initial contact by phone, walk-in, or referral. Veterans may also walk into the Veterans Resource Center during operating hours, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

From there, staff complete a brief intake conversation, assess needs, help identify goals, and connect each veteran to the services that fit best. Ongoing participation and follow-up help support continued progress and connection to long-term resources.

Veteran Success Story

Eric P. is a U.S. Army veteran who served honorably from 1977 to 1980. He came to Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard five years ago after experiencing some life struggles. Eric heard about Veterans Place from a fellow veteran who recommended he check it out.

After coming to Veterans Place, Eric felt like he finally had a place where he could feel safe. Eric struggled with alcoholism for more than 40 years and felt like life was going to be that way forever. He felt hopeless and knew he needed help.

That’s when Eric found the Recovery Support Services (RSS) program at Veterans Place. He enrolled in the program and began his recovery journey. Since entering the program, Eric has made tremendous progress and has begun living a life free from alcohol.

When asked what he thought was the biggest part of his recovery journey so far, Eric said, “The people here at Veteran’s Place. Ya’ll really care. I would definitely recommend the RSS program for any Veteran who is struggling with alcohol or addiction.”
