Veterans Place Thanks the City of Pittsburgh

Veterans Place Updates

Veterans Place is Now Safer, Thanks to the City of Pittsburgh

At the beginning of February 2021, the City of Pittsburgh demolished these long-vacant and abandoned properties next door to Veterans Place and will be transferring ownership of the now cleared land to allow for an expansion of needed veteran support services. These buildings caused a threat to the current campus of Veterans Place for many years. Veterans Place is grateful for the support of the City and Mayor Bill Peduto for expediting this process to ensure the safety of our veterans.

Maurice Fowler

Help Us Congratulate Veterans Place’s March Veteran of the Month

The Veterans Place Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program (HVRP) is pleased to announce Maurice Fowler as March’s Veteran of the Month. Veteran Fowler came to HVRP through the Veterans Place Veterans Resource Center. Veteran Fowler was in the Army from January 1987 – October 1990 as a Quartermaster and Chemical Equipment Repair Specialist and was honorably discharged. Veteran Fowler has been eager to find a job in the electrical or maintenance fields. With HVRP’s diligent work and determination to help Veteran Fowler in his job search, we are excited to say that that he is now employed as a Utility Associate! Congratulations to Veteran Fowler on his continued success!

Looking Forward to Warmer Weather?

With the cold months and snowstorms behind us, Veterans Place is looking forward to enjoying the springtime activities, such as planting vegetables and herbs in the on-site gardens, provided by Phipp’s Conservatory, and continuing our mission to combat veteran homelessness. There are many veterans in Allegheny County that need assistance every night. Veterans Place visits homeless shelters, encampments, and hospitals every day, searching for veterans that need help. Our on-site Veterans Resource Center takes a holistic and individualized approach to meet each veteran where they are to assist them on their journey to become self-sufficient. Local veterans are provided an on-site free laundry facility, shower facilities, food pantry, clothing, and supportive services to address the root causes of their struggles.

As you plan for St. Patrick’s Day and Springtime Events, please be sure to remember those that still need help. Join us in our mission to ensure every veteran has a roof over their head and the tools that they need to survive by clicking here.

We are wishing our community of supporters a healthy, and happy March. We could not do this without you!
